🛞 How the Wheel Strategy Works

1️⃣

Sell a Cash-Secured Put (CSP)

You sell the right to buy a stock at a lower price. You collect premium (cash) immediately. If the stock stays above your strike price, you keep the premium — done.

2️⃣

Get Assigned (Optional)

If the stock drops below your strike, you buy 100 shares at that price. You already own them cheaper than market price, plus the premium you collected reduces your cost further.

3️⃣

Sell a Covered Call (CC)

You own the shares, so you sell the right for someone to buy them at a higher price. You collect more premium. Repeat until your shares are called away.

The Goal

Collect premium month after month. The best wheel traders target 2–4% monthly on capital deployed — that's 24–48% annualised from a stock you were happy to own anyway.

⚡ THE 3 GOLDEN RULES

From a trader with 900+ real trades and a 95% win rate — these rules are the foundation.

Rule 1 SELL a CSP only on a stock you wouldn't mind owning (VOO, VXUS, NVDA… solid ETFs, blue chips) and would have bought anyway.

Rule 2 SELL a CC on stocks you already own, made a profit, and don't mind getting rid of at a higher price. Don't regret it if the price rises further — you made your money.

Rule 3 If you cannot follow both Rules 1 and 2, do not venture into options.

This number measures market fear. When it gets too high, we automatically switch to safer investments. Default 30 is fine for most people.

Alpaca Trading Account

Connect your Alpaca brokerage account so Investlyy can read your portfolio and execute trades on your behalf. Your API keys are encrypted with AES-256 before being stored and are never returned by the API.

💰 Getting Your Money Back & Taxes

How to sell: Go to the Portfolio tab and click Sell next to any holding. You can sell part of it or all of it. The money goes back to your Alpaca account, and you can withdraw it to your bank from there.

When can you sell? Any time the US stock market is open — Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

What about taxes? When you sell at a profit, you may owe tax on the gain:

Held more than 1 year — lower tax rate (long-term capital gains: 0%, 15%, or 20% depending on your income)
Held less than 1 year — taxed like regular income (usually higher)
If you sell at a loss, you may actually reduce your other taxes — called tax-loss harvesting.
